Service Market Logistics (SML) North America is part of Volvo Group Trucks Operations (GTO). We are a global organization of over 3,000 employees located in over 47 locations in 30 countries. Our job is to develop, manage and optimize the Service Market supply chain (aftermarket parts distribution to dealer network) for all Volvo Group brands and joint ventures. We develop logistics solutions to ensure the highest parts availability, delivery precision and quality at all our distribution centers. We ensure that all logistics services are delivered with world class operational excellence utilizing Lean Thinking.

The VPS intern position will be responsible for working with Jacksonville, Florida Operations Management team and Quality team supporting the Regional Distribution Centers (RDC) in their Lean journey. The intern role provides students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment, and to promote the graduate’s career goals through contact with professionals in their field of study. The intern experience enables students to participate in professional activities for Volvo Group Service Market Logistics by working on projects for the Manger and Quality team. Internships are structured learning experiences where interns and our full-time professionals work together on projects within their selected organization. The internship allows students to integrate knowledge and skills in a manner that is mutually beneficial to the student and Volvo Group Service Market Logistics.

Responsibilities

  • Support Lean/Continuous Improvement activities across multiple RDCs.

  • Hands on operator to collaborate with warehouse

  • Assist with research and data collection.

  • Prepare presentations and reports.

  • Participate in internal team meetings.

  • Design and develop training material / portfolios to promote lean culture and quality mindset e.g., 5S, PSM, Fishbone Diagram, 5WHY, PDCA Cycle.

  • Develop VPS tools library to boost communication e.g., books, 5S Program, idea generation status boards.

  • Describe procedures – Governance of PSM, Ideas, SOP, etc.

  • Collaborate with local RDC VPS Lean Leadership to coordinate lean activities.

Education and Program Requirements

  • Applicant must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related degree at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours of undergraduate studies prior to the start of the co-op/internship.

  • Interns work less than 30 hours per week.

  • Must be enrolled in academic courses as a full-time student (except summer).

  • Must be in good academic standing with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75/4.0.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Valid US Work authorization.

GTO’s goal is to contribute to the student’s development, as well as providing an opportunity for the student to work in a business environment within the manufacturing industry. This position will report directly to the VPS and Quality Manager of the RDCs NA.

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $16.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
