Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Work with a team of highly motivated financial professionals who are passionate about advancing employment and investment in New Jersey’s innovation economy business community . The successful candidate will perform duties that will assist the Economic Transformation Division /Product Operations Department in reviewing applica tion s to various Clean Energy programs , as well as to other Economic Transformation and Commission on Science, Innovation and Technology ( CSIT ) programs , as needed. The applicant will have firsthand insight into New Jersey businesses seeking to create innovative solutions around new technologies in sectors such as life sciences, information, and high tech, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, advanced transportation and logistics, finance and insurance, food & beverage (non-retail), film and digital media, and the capital needs of these companies to grow their businesses in the state of New Jersey. NJEDA interns receive exposure to f inancial, l egal , and g overnment analysis and functions , and contribute to making a difference in their communities.

  • Supports various Economic Transformation and CSIT programs by reviewing applications for eligibility and compliance, inputting and organizing related data, and corresponding with applicants as needed for clarification

  • Completes initial legal reviews on entities (corporations, LLCs, individuals, trusts, etc..) per internal guidelines and legislated program requirements.

  • Reviews legal findings to either expand legal reviews or to elevate cases to higher internal Legal Department or to further present to the AG’s office.

  • Completes fraud training and learns to identify issues with state documents and applicant’s errors.

  • Learns CRM in order to compile and organize program and legal documentation for current and future reference.

  • Works closely with core staff on business analysis and applicant verification of information; responsible for maintaining tracking documents, spreadsheets, and files in an organized and accurate manner .

  • Promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative, and customer focused work environment among division, EDA staff, and external customers.

  • Performs other duties , special projects, and works on additional programs, as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; proficient in grammar, spelling and editing; adept at communicating with business professionals and EDA staff

  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload ; must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and handle various tasks simultaneously ; must work independently within limited time constrains with li ttle supervision

  • Ability to analyze data and prepare data visualization materials and other relevant documentation for the sector leaders

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and deal effectively and diplomatically with business professionals and EDA staff

  • Demonstrates respectful behavior and promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative and customer - focused work environment among EDA staff and external customers  

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software and systems

    Required Qualifications

    Education and Experience Requirements

  • Enrollment in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program, preferably with a focus on finance, law, public policy, or related areas. Will work with degree program requirements for credit.

    Position Requirements

  • Foreign degrees/transcripts must be evaluated by a reputable evaluation service at your own expense and must be submitted prior to a start date . If this cannot be provided within 21 days of an offer the offer will be rescinded.

  • Must comply with the “New Jersey First Act” which requires employees hired after September 1, 2011 to reside in New Jersey. Non-New Jersey resident employees must relocate to New Jersey within one year of their date of hire and provide proof of residency to Human Resources.
