State of Massachusetts Invasive Insects Outreach Intern in 225 Turnpike Road, Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources provides survey and outreach efforts for introduced plant pests, pathogens and weeds of concern to the state of Massachusetts. We are seeking an intern to work to assist with an outreach campaign focused on the invasive insect known as Spotted Lanternfly. The intern will assist with distributing outreach materials and educating the public about this pest. This is a paid internship position for college students that pays $21/hour and is expected to work 37.5 hours a week and may have occasional weekend work. Flexibility on hours, days of the week and schedule will be provided. The main area of work will be conducted in western Massachusetts and travel is expected so residency in western Massachusetts is preferred but not required. The intern will assist with our spotted lanternfly outreach campaign in the following ways: * Assist with placing posters and other SLF educational material in locations near high-risk areas * Assist staff with tabling at events where we educate people about spotted lanternfly * Assist with production of outreach materials (button-making, printing posters, etc.) * Assist other MDAR staff with other invasive pest needs, as needed. The intern will receive online and field training so that they can comfortably speak to the public about spotted lanternfly. *First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. * *_Preferred Knowledge and Skills_: _ * Knowledge and experience in entomology or biology * Needs to be competent at working independently_ * Needs to have their own vehicle to be able to travel to locations to distribute outreach material_ * Should have experience using spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel_ There are no benefits with this position, except earned sick leave.
