JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • This is an Intern position ideal for candidates who are eager to learn and will serve as an integral part of the Media Relations team.

  • Duties and responsibilities include building and maintaining media lists, drafting and sending pitches and media materials, writing media backgrounder documents for university experts, and reviewing incoming Google Alerts. Tracks press coverage, clippings and Google alerts.

  • Writes articles, press releases, strategic communications plans, digital content, and more.

  • Assists with media visits to campus. Posts content to websites and online calendars.

  • Participates in brainstorming sessions. Demonstrates the ability to manage projects effectively against tight deadlines.

  • Contributes to positive outcomes for day-to-day project work.

  • Support university events.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidates must be working toward or recently completed a B.S., B.A., M.A. or M.S. degree with a 3.0 minimum GPA.

  • Must be available to commit to twenty (20) hours per week. Excellent writing and presentation skills. Experience with social and earned media and ability to monitor both.

  • Prefer experience with digital platforms and tools such as Cascade, Adobe Creative Cloud applications (PhotoShop, InDesign, Premier Pro, Illustrator specifically), and experience with media monitoring tools such as Cision, Meltwater and/or MuckRack.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
