The position performs technical assignments to assist the Bridge Rating Engineer and rating engineers to perform bridge inspections, bridge ratings, overload permit evaluations, bridge load postings and bridge repair projects. The position independently utilizes a wide variety of computer software and equipment to perform these assignments. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals and directives.
No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Engineer Intern Applicant, Engineer Intern 1 , Engineer Intern 2, Engineer 3, 4, or 5 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
Engineer Intern 1 - has a special entranced rate of$2115.20 Bi weekly.
Engineer Intern 2- has a special entranced rate of$2263.20 Bi weekly.
Engineer 3- has a special entranced rate of$2671.20/Bi weekly.
Engineer 4- has a special entranced rate of$2952.00/Bi weekly.
Engineer 5- has a special entranced rate of $3158.40/Bi weekly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE: This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.
NOTE: Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed atwww.lapels.com

FUNCTION OF WORK:
To apply scholastic theory and elementary engineering skills to a variety of tasks involving standard procedures and practices in the field, office, or laboratory in order to acquire practical experience for licensure.

Differs from Engineering Technicians and other related jobs by the presence of responsibility for applying engineering principles under close supervision.
Differs from Engineer Intern 1 by the absence of a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
Examples of Work
40% Statewide Bridge Load Rating Functions as a bridge rating engineer for the in-house evaluation of bridge structures. Determine the as designed, as-built or the load rating capacity based on the actual field condition of the bridges. Perform field inspection of damaged and deteriorated bridges to supplement the load rating process. Perform bridge load rating in accordance with the Department's manuals and policies, Federal Highway administration's policies, AASHTO MBE and LRFD bridge specifications and all generally accepted structural design practices. Provides emergency engineering services of damaged structures in order to evaluate the ability of the structure to remain in service.
Perform bridge overlay project review and assistance in the Non Destructive Testing of bridges.
20% Understand the truck permit regulations and the truck permit review process. Perform in-depth structural analysis in reviewing overload truck permit requests.
20% Manages electronic files related to bridge load rating and QA/QC of bridge inventory data related to load rating. Organize bridge rating files and assistant bridge rating engineers to improve the bridge rating record management system. Review and manage the in-house and consultant's rating records. Be familiar with the maintenance files. Provide assistance and training to consultants to access DOTD bridge files.
15% Assisting the Engineer 7 by providing technical guidance; developing policies and procedures to improve efficiency, accuracy, precision, uniformity, and efficacy; participating or managing special assignments in the area of expertise for the section or Department.
5% Emergency/disaster support and other activities May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
