M&T Bank 2025 Summer Internship Program - Finance, First Line Risk Buffalo, New York
Overview:
Summer Interns complete a 10 week internship centered around professional development, career growth and building the necessary skills to succeed. Summer Interns participate in projects and department initiatives that accelerate career growth and play an important role in building the future of the Bank. As an Intern, you will gain exposure to other departments through guest speakers and industry leaders and a built-in network with peers as well as priority consideration for full time opportunities throughout the Bank.
The First Line Risk team helps to ensure a strong culture of risk identification, measurement, and mitigation is in place throughout the Finance division, including:
Ensuring consistent processes surrounding the overall governance around risk functions. This would include, but not be limited to, proper identification and resolution of Management Self-Identified issues (MSI’s), development of Key Risk Indicator’s (KRI’s), maintenance and validation of End User Computing (EUC) items, documenting a consistent and standardized process to maintain division wide policies and procedures, and act as a liaison with internal/external examiners.
Developing and executing a testing plan to ensure there are controls in place to mitigate key Operational Risks. These controls are periodically tested to validate they work appropriately, and that any issues are remediated in a timely manner. This would include the overall management of findings and issues across Finance.
Developing a standardized process for mapping of key processes (and sub-process) in the Finance division to ensure risks are accurately noted and controls identified.
An intern working alongside the Finance: First Line Risk team will support the team in daily auditing and reporting tasks, ensuring compliance of the Bank's risk appetite.
Primary Responsibilities:
Complete duties and responsibilities of an entry-level professional nature specific to assigned area of the Bank.
Ensure activities adhere to established internal policies and external regulations as applicable.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0

Currently pursing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, MIS, Math, or Econ
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated MS Office, Excel skills

The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation. The range listed above encompasses all geographic locations. The pay rate specific to your location will fall within this range and is available from your recruiter.
