We’re looking for a motivated Regulatory Affairs Specialist to join our growing organization. This position is responsible for the daily functions of the Regulatory Affairs Department and the coordination of report filings to federal, state, provincial and local agencies, as well as data submissions to customers and agencies. Additionally, this position works with the Regulatory Affairs Director to ensure corporate compliance with federal, state, provincial and local regulations governing the storage and sale of products.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily operations including label precautionary text generation, primary label reviews, secondary SDS reviews, marketing literature reviews and regulatory support for customers, sales channel and internal personnel.

  • Researching regulations, contact regulatory agencies, attending professional seminars and meetings and obtaining regulatory updates from professional organizations and governmental agencies.

  • Developing processes to ensure corporate compliance.

  • Works on special projects as assigned by the Director, Regulatory Affairs.

CORPORATE COMPLIANCE

  • Researches federal, state and local regulations governing the storage and sales of products and company operations.

  • Communicates current and upcoming regulations to internal and sales channel personnel as appropriate.

  • Develops processes to ensure corporate compliance, coordinating with internal departments (Product Management, Supply Chain, Distribution, Transportation, Storage, etc.) as needed.

  • Attends professional meetings and seminars to keep abreast of the changing and current regulatory climate.

  • Initiates and maintains appropriate records as required by federal, state, provincial and local agencies.

SALES AND CORPORATE SUPPORT

  • Responds to inquiries from vendors, sales representatives, and customers regarding regulatory issues.

  • Researches regulatory matters as requested by sales channel personnel, customers, internal personnel, and the Regulatory Affairs management.

  • Collaborates with Product Management, Engineering, Sales Education and Marketing to develop compliance-related, value-added services for Lawson Customers.

  • Attends internal meetings to represent the Regulatory Affairs Department.

  • Reviews marketing literature to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Participates in sales training and sales seminars as required.

  • Assists internal personnel with projects that require regulatory support, such as waste disposal and training program development.

  • Coordinates submission of chemical information for national account review (e.g. Ford, Daimler-Chrysler, GM, etc.)

PRODUCT COMPLIANCE

  • Reviews new and existing products for compliance with US and Canadian regulatory requirements.

  • Manages regulatory-related product attributes and exclusion records in product information management database and regulatory reporting tools.

  • Generates Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and maintains product data in SDS authoring program; distributes SDSs to appropriate internal personnel and outside agencies.

  • Reviews new and potential product vendor SDSs at the request of internal personnel.

  • Generates precautionary text for product labels in accordance with federal, state, provincial, and local regulations.

  • Gives final approval for all product labels.

  • Coordinates the registered product labeling review schedule and updates EPA registered labeling as requested by the basic registrant or state agency.

STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCY REPORTING

  • Coordinates regulatory agency and third-party reporting obligations including, but not limited to:

  • product registrations

  • data call-ins

  • licensing applications

  • chemical storage and sales reports

  • volatile organic compound (VOC) reporting

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, toxicology, product safety or related field, with at least 2 years regulatory affairs experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledgeable in all regulations pertaining to industrial and institutional chemical distribution including EPA, FDA, OSHA, DOT, WHMIS and applicable state, federal and provincial regulations.

  • SAP knowledge preferred.

  • PC literacy in Windows, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Must possess accuracy, strong attention to detail, solid written and oral communication skills, ability to prioritize projects and work independently, and excellent organizational skills.

  • Ability to read and understand complex technical, legislative and regulation information and to make independent decisions.
