  • Work hours: PRN – As Needed; Evening Shift, weekdays/nights, weekends, holidays required.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required and

  • Currently enrolled and in good standing or completed an AMA approved Respiratory Care Program required

Experience:

  • 2 nd Year Students Welcome to Apply

Licenses and Certifications:

  • BCLS – Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly required.

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate and work collaboratively.

  • Basic computer skills

  • Critical thinking and the ability to develop patient care plans.

  • Good interpersonal skills

Position Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

Basic Respiratory Skills:

  • Performs and monitors basic respiratory procedures and treatments such as inhaled medications, oxygen delivery, volume expansion therapy, bronchial hygiene (does not include invasive suctioning), pulse oximetry, capnography, airway management and ventilator management.

  • Follows hospital and national patient safety goals.

Clinical Procedures:

  • Participates with specialized procedures such as Pulmonary function testing, analyzing arterial blood gases (does not include the drawing of the sample), patient transports.

  • Responds quickly and performs as BCLS provider during Code Blue MET situations.

Clinical Skill:

  • Performs patient assessments, develops care plans and modifies therapy following established guidelines and or protocols.

  • Notifies physicians and multi-disciplinary team members appropriately.

  • Operates mechanical ventilators per department policy and procedures and sets and modifies all parameters per physician orders and protocols.

Documentation:

  • Documents all treatments, procedures, patient assessments, ventilator rounds and verbal orders following department policies and procedures.

  • Uses department computer systems appropriately to accurately record patient therapy/diagnostic tests and assessments.

  • Writes legibly.

Teamwork:

  • Performs job as a team member and works cooperatively within own department and other disciplines in a constructive manner.

  • Carries out assignments with appropriate level of direction and calls for assistance when appropriate.

  • Actively seeks others out when work is complete.

  • Willingly accepts additional responsibility.

  • Treats others equally and with respect.

  • Honors pledge to my peers.

Planning:

  • Reports to work on time and when scheduled.

  • Completes all assigned work in timely manner and in accordance to department standards.

  • Checks for new orders throughout shift and initiates therapy per policy and procedure.

Professionalism:

  • Maintains BCLS.

  • Completes required competencies.

  • Meets review goals from previous year.
