Position Overview: Location: Denver, CO Reports to: Energy Program Director Work Schedule: Groundwork Denver's typical business hours are Monday-Friday between 9:00am-5:00pm. The approximate schedule for this internship is 3 days per week for about 6 hours per day. Position Summary: Groundwork Denver is seeking a part-time temporary intern to assist in energy audits, energy efficiency improvements and air sealing. The Home Energy Efficiency Intern will go to in-home visits with the Energy Audit Team to investigate needed upgrade regarding insulation, air sealing, appliances, heating systems, and other energy features of the home. The Home Energy Efficiency Intern will learn to assist with combustion safety tests, and install energy improvement measures such as LED light bulbs, shower heads, pipe insulation, thermostats, carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, caulk, weather stripping, duct sealing, etc. The job requires working in attics and crawlspaces. Qualifications, education and experience: Interest in, and willingness to learn, energy auditing best practices Some (minimal) training and/or personal experience in air sealing and duct sealing, weatherization activities, residential construction or repairs preferred To be successful in this position, the Intern must be: Skilled at or interested in using basic tools (ladders, drills, screw drivers, thermometers) and ability to learn how the building construction affects energy efficiency and safety Some understanding of residential construction methods helpful and basic knowledge of building codes a plus Ability to climb a ladder, carry 50 pounds of equipment, and crawl in tight spaces Proficiency in English with fluency or proficiency in Spanish preferred Willingness to learn how to install shower heads, pipe insulation, thermostats, caulk and weather-stripping Excellent communication skills - interest in educating residents about energy efficiency improvements and behavior changes that reduce energy bills Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to collect accurate data and specifications Ability to work independently on job sites and also as a member of an audit team Ability to work respectfully and effectively with people of all backgrounds Willingness to share in all duties of the non-profit office as needed Pay, Benefits and Schedule: Hourly pay is $18.29 per hour. Workdays are typically Monday-Friday with occasional Saturdays. between 9:00am-5:00pm. Average hours per week are expected to be 16-24 hours. Opportunity to take foundational classes in BPI certification program, with tuition expenses paid.
