Philips Internship: Bayesian statistics in consumer device development in Drachten, Netherlands

Start date: Q1 2024

Duration: 6 months

Type: Suitable for MSc Thesis

Weekly presence: 32-40 hours

Goal of this assignment:

Philips recognizes the potential of utilizing Bayesian statistics to improve the quality of the prediction by actively including prior knowledge into the analysis of test data (prior + test data = posterior). The assignment would focus on ways we could incorporate Bayesian statistics into the development process to allow improved decision making. You will work in the product and user research team and will take part in driving the transformation towards utilization of Bayesian statistics during product development.

Your role:

  • Investigating the potential and suitability of Bayesian statistics during product development with the focus on user related data sources.

  • Development of required test method framework, data structures and scripting/software needed for successful implementation of Bayesian statistics.

  • Responsible for actual implementation and surrounding stakeholder management.

You're the right fit if:

  • You are studying towards your University Master in: Mathematics, Statistics, Data Sciences or other similar degree.

  • You have strong data analysis skills and education/experience in the field of Bayesian statistics.

  • You have affinity with consumer product related test methodologies and the challenges surrounding them.

  • You are fluent in English language both verbal and written.

IMPORTANT :

Part of our selection procedure is a HireVue Assessment. We are not able to correspond the outcome of this HireVue Assessment but will use this as an extra selection criteria.

Our intern remuneration package:

  • Monthly full-time allowance between €500 - €700 gross, depending on educational level and if you would need to relocate to The Netherlands. If you perform a part-time internship, you will receive an allowance pro-rata.

  • Housing compensation, in case of relocating to the vicinity of the office, €300,- net if location is in the vicinity of Amsterdam, €255,- net for all other Philips locations. You need to provide a rental contract of the landlord, and your normal home-work travel distance need to be more than 50 km or travel time (one way trip) need to be more than 1.5 hours.

  • Travel compensation, if you are not eligible for a free public transport card; you will receive max. €192,- net

  • Paid holidays per internship term.

  • The opportunity to buy Philips products at our Philips shop.
