High School Product Engineering Intern

POSITION SUMMARY:

Advanced Energy, AE, is currently seeking an engineering intern to support the productization of a minature plasma chamber. This chamber will be later used for radio frequency, RF, fundamentals training provided to AE associates and key customers. Candidates will work closely with engineers to fabricate, procure, assemble and document components for the chamber assembly as well as support design verification testing.

More than 20 hours per week is preferred but reduced hours will be considered depending on the candidate’s class load and availability. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the date of hire.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Candidates may perform and support design activities related to any of the following:

  • Interpret drawings and design criteria from an engineer to be used to fabricate custom machined parts

  • Machine parts at an offsite at a 3rd party machine shop (e.g. Poudre School District machine shop)

  • Procure parts, including off-the-shelf or custom-design parts, from online or local vendors

  • Assemble components using various hand and power tools

  • Test and verify the completed top-level assembly using vacuum pump, RF power, RF matching and RF metrology equipment

  • Document various mechanical drawings and assembly procedures

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Location: Fort Collins, CO

  • Environment: Office setting, engineering lab, machine shop

  • Physical Requirements: Lifting, carrying, standing

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Ability to work in a lab environment building, modifying, analyzing and testing prototypes

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Ability to meet schedule requirements and manage priorities as directed by a supervisor

  • Proficient using hand tools and power tools (under supervision)

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Windows-based platforms and with computer-based design and analysis tools, working knowledge of MS Office Suite

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with SolidWorks preferred, or any CAD software

  • Experience with a CNC machine desired, and other machine shop equipment

  • Experience interpreting technical drawings and specifications

EDUCATION:

  • Working toward a high school diploma with completed coursework in STEM

  • Completed coursework in CAD modeling and machining preferred

  • GPA > 3.25

  • (Preferred) Current or planned enrollment at a local college or university

COMPENSATION:

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The starting pay for this role is $17 USD per hour.
