Position Summary

RSI is recruiting for aHydrogeology Internwho willassist with environmental researchand/or field activitiesbeing conducted under the Applied Studies and Technology Educational Collaboration initiative at DOE OfficeofLegacy Management (DOE LM)sites. These research activities will include participating in hydrological testing of the Navajo Sandstone, processing test data, and working with geophysical data and aerial imagery to develop an understanding of how cementation, bedding structure, and other depositional features might impact groundwater flow in the Navajo Sandstone.

Job Title: Hydrogeology Intern

Location(s): Grand Junction, CO

Status: Part-Time

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Hiring Range: $18.02 per hour.

This position is required to travel 0-10% of the time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support staff hydrogeologists with their daily functions as necessary.

  • Participate in hydraulic testing (slug testing) of wells within the Navajo sandstone and prepare testing data for analysis.

  • Water and soil collection, preparation, and geochemical analyses.

  • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of collected NMR porosity data within the Navajo sandstone to assess the connectivity of regions of greater mobile porosity.

  • Prepare or develop graphical representations of data that illustrate the proposed patterns and relationships (e.g., using Excel, R, Python, or 3D visualization software).

  • Interpret NMR porosity data in the context of the depositional environment of the Navajo Sandstone and former milling activities on site.

  • Mapping and correlating permeability and depositional features from outcrops to nearby logged wells may be required as deemed necessary.

  • Reviewing Navajo Sandstone core held in storage.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Years of Relevant Experience

  • Completion of 48 credit hours prior to start of internship towards anundergraduatedegree in Geology, Geochemistry, Hydrogeology, Chemistry, Civil/Environmental Engineering or a relatedfield.

  • No experience required.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • No professional certification required.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Microsoft office including but not limited to Excel, Power Point, and Word.

  • Experience with field work & willingness to travel for field work.

  • Experience with scripting languages (R or Python preferred).

  • Knowledgeable in identifying sedimentary structures and secondary porosity features in outcrop or recovered core

Essential Physical Requirements

Medium: Work involves moving objects by exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or an above-negligible amount and up to 10 pounds constantly. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.
