GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  Under the supervision of the Department Director, the student intern participates in patient-centered, team-based care by helping to provide optimal patient flow through the clinic, record keeping, quality assurance, and inventory while always considering the patient's specific needs at all stages of life. The student intern will learn many aspects of patient care and clinic operations. SPECIFIC DUTIES: (This list may not include all the assigned duties.) * Shadows and assists with tasks as deemed necessary by the department director or chief medical officer. * Files and collects documents, QA logs, and other clinical material. * Maintains accuracy of inventory systems. * Rooming Patients; assisting Medical Assistants with patients. * Answers patient calls and directs them to the correct department or by creating telephone encounters. * Builds relationships with patients, staff, and providers to ensure excellent customer service. * Communicate clearly with providers, other staff, and patients to promote optimum clinic flow. * Good verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels. * Communicate with the Department Director about any urgent issues that arise. * Recommends improvement in processes and practices through the proper channels. * Takes accurate messages and responds in a timely manner. * Practices standard safety precautions to ensure safety for self, other staff, and patients. * Ensures confidentiality of all patients, family, provider, and other staff information. Only discuss patient information when pertinent to care and only with appropriate personnel. * Maintains a clean work environment in personal, staff, and patient spaces such as exam rooms. * Maintains and cares for office and clinical equipment and supplies. Cleans and sterilizes equipment. * Upholds Western Sierra Medical Clinic's Policies and Procedures, infection control standards, and applicable state, federal, and local laws. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: * High School Diploma or GED * Desire to learn and potentially train in a medical profession. The pay for this position is $21.00 per hour.
