The Keystone Internship will be between 225-300 hours and last 10 weeks between May 13, 2024 and August 23, 2024.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position will introduce the intern to the collections held at the Pennsylvania State Archives, including both state records and non-government records of historically significant value. As an intern, you will learn basic archival preservation techniques and how to identify records needing further conservation. You will update and/or create new holdings lists and content on our current collection management system (Eloquent/ARCH) so the public can access records. There will be a chance to learn basic archival theory through readings provided by the intern supervisor.

To gain an understanding of how the public uses our collections for research purposes, you will work with the Public Services Section on certain assigned days. You will receive training in how to search our collections to answer common genealogical or other reference questions, and also work with the patrons to retrieve requested documents. You will also receive opportunities to work with members of other sections at the Pennsylvania State Archives to gain an understanding of how these sections serve both the public and other state agencies.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Internship (temporary part-time) Work hours are flexible and will be finalized between selected interns and their supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements: You must be currently enrolled, or will be enrolled in a college or university full-time in an undergraduate or graduate program by the start of the internship. You must be in good academic standing (2.5 GPA or higher). Additional Requirements: You must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire. You must currently be enrolled, or will be enrolled at a college or university undergraduate or graduate program for the Summer 2024 or Fall 2024 academic term by the start of the internship. You must be able to work in or commute to Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. You must be able to perform essential job functions. Preferred Qualifications (not required): Possess work, academic, or volunteer experience.
