Responsibilities

  • Works on all aspects related to developing physics-based models for drilling hydraulics.

  • Responsible for selecting and/or developing the optimum model(s) for characterization of drilling and completion hydraulics processes, including testing, validating, and benchmarking analytic solutions derived from the models.

  • Collaborates with peers and other domain experts sustaining an open environment focused on solving complex engineering problems.

  • Works closely with other modelling engineers, software developers, product lines and management team to identify opportunities for improving the performance of existing modeling solutions.

  • Develops and improves steady-state and transient hydraulics models for drilling, completions, and other areas in the energy industry.

  • Participates in technical seminars and writing technical papers.

  • Participates in estimation, planning, and identification of risks and issues related to model accuracy and uncertainties.

  • Partners and works with data scientists and other modeling engineers to create hybrid analytics solutions (physics plus AI/ML).

  • Must understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies of Weatherford.

  • Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.

Weatherford is currently seeking an Engineering Intern - Hydraulics who is passionate about conceptualizing, developing, and deploying physics-based models to accurately characterize processes taking place during well drilling, completions, and other operations in the energy industry. The successful candidate will work with multiple domain experts to improve existing modeling solutions and create new solutions addressing energy industry challenges energy in a business-effective way.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • This position is open for Petroleum, Mechanical Engineering or similar (Bachelors of Masters level) students and recent graduates Graduating 2024-Spring 202

    Essential Qualifications:

  • Good understanding of hydraulics modeling and numerical methods applicable to the energy industry

  • Basic understanding of steady-state and, transient modeling tools for hydraulics processes

  • Willingness to learn how to develop physics-based solutions for hydraulics processes in the energy industry. This may include but is not limited to drilling hydraulics, downhole hydraulics, drilling bottom hole assembly integrity, abrasion, failure analysis, heat transfer and dissipation, etc.

  • Able to apply engineering principles and analysis to develop and improve physics-based solutions.

  • Basic knowledge of oil and gas and energy industry data types

  • Strong scientific and technical writing/presentations

  • Exemplary interpersonal skills including conflict resolutions.

  • Ability to manage multiple issues to successful completion.

  • Capability of working collaboratively in a team environment in person and remotely maintaining effective interactions with team members coming from a broad range of backgrounds both cultural and technical.

  • High level of personal accountability.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technology trends.

  • Open-mind, humble and curious attitude

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work in cross-functional multi-cultural teams, meet deadlines, and prioritize multiple projects.

  • Be able to legally work in the United States, without company sponsorship or time restrictions ever in the future.

  • Summer Intern Program will be 10 weeks long.(June 3 - August 9)

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with Software Development processes and methodologies

  • Experience with higher-level interpreted programming languages applied to sciences such as MATLAB, Python and/or R

  • Familiar with C+

    • Understanding of managed pressure is an advantage
