DESCRIPTION OF WORK The Cultural Resource Management Program by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) offers internships in cultural resource management and historic preservation. These internships are part of the Highway Archaeological Survey Team (PHAST) at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, Pennsylvania. You will have the opportunity to actively participate in research related to the management, study, and preservation of archaeological sites and historic resources impacted by transportation projects. Additionally, you will gain exposure to various job skills and employment prospects in Cultural Resource Management through seminars and rotations in Geographic Information System, curation, archaeological field work, project delivery, consulting, environmental review, and National Register evaluation.

You may be able to obtain academic credit through participation in PennDOT's internship program. Ask your academic advisor if your college offers credit for paid internships.

QUALIFICATIONSInternship Requirements: Must be a high school graduate or college student enrolled (or intending to enroll) on a full-time or part-time basis in a 2- or 4- year post-secondary education program for the fall semester. You must be in good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher).

You must be at least 18 years of age. Special Requirement: Certain positions require verification of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License Additional Requirement: You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required): Previous exposure to GIS, database management, and archaeological, historical, or historic preservation coursework and field experience in the Middle Atlantic Region. Major in: Anthropology, Archaeology, Cultural Resource Management, Historic Preservation, Preservation Planning, History, Architectural History, Geography/Geographic Information, or American Studies.
