Position Overview

Davey Corporate Communications

Historical Archives

Part-time Intern Summer/Fall 2025

Position Description :

Davey is seeking a self-motivated, highly organized individual with a passion for historic preservation and an interest in storytelling to join the corporate communications team as an intern supporting the company’s historical archives.

The primary focus for this role will be labeling and organizing the new modular storage system in Davey’s new archival facility to correspond with the company’s pre-existing archival inventory map.

In 2024, in preparation for the opening of a new archival storage facility at the Davey SEED Campus under construction in Kent, the company worked with architects and archival storage solution providers to design the company’s first-ever dedicated archival storage space. This facility, housed within the new SEED Campus, consists of a receiving room, processing room, and long-term storage area with display space. The long-term storage space consists of all new flat files, wire art racks, and multiple rows of modular shelving units.

The goal for this internship is to assist in organizing and labeling the new storage facilities to correspond with the company’s existing archival collections, complete with wayfinding and other archival search tools, to allow for the integration of the company’s thousands of historic artifacts into the new system in a cohesive, searchable manner. This work will involve assessing existing inventory sheets and physical items to determine the best locations for items in the new system, labeling the locations accordingly and placing the items in their new locations.

This project offers the opportunity to play an important role in defining the archival organizational structure for a legacy tree care company with over 145 years of history.

Job Duties

Primary Tasks and Project Goals Include:

The digitization process may include uploading scanned files to our company digital asset management database, and inputting relevant metadata.

This role may also support exhibit display coordination and installation in the new SEED Campus building, and may be assigned other duties as needed.

Additionally, this role may include digitization of select items within the company archives for use in communications messaging, including:

  • Scanning 60+ years of monthly issues of the company employee magazine, The Davey Bulletin;
