The Plutonium Infrastructure Engineering -2 Group of Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for a Post Bachelor Student to help develop, maintain, and apply a diverse set of engineering capabilities that provide innovative engineering solutions to enable the Laboratory's scientific and national security mission.

The selected Post-Bach will be responsible for ensuring that the technical aspects of facility design, operations, maintenance and construction projects are executed in full conformance with standard engineering principles and requirements. This is accomplished by providing input during scoping, design, execution, and project closeout to ensure engineering documents are accurate, adhered to, and reflect the final field configuration. Engineers expedite project execution by identifying issues, coordinating technical solutions, and providing timely guidance to their assigned customers through approved disciplined processes.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of engineering principles with an aptitude in reading and understanding engineering documents, drawings, and specifications.

  • Ability to effectively communicate engineering solutions both verbally and in writing for management, customers, peers, and craft personnel.

  • Aptitude in collaborative problem solving to resolve facility and infrastructure engineering issues.

  • Laboratory experience demonstrating an attention to detail and commitment to safety.

  • Commitment to achieving results in a complex matrix of technical, social and organizational settings.

  • Demonstrated good communication (verbal and written) skills

  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment.

  • Experience writing technical papers or proposals.

  • Experience demonstrating an attention to detail and commitment to safety.

  • Leadership ability.

Education/Experience:

Completion of a Bachelor's degree within the past 3 years or soon to be completed, with a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0.

Desired Qualifications:

Engineering Codes: Familiar with Engineering Standards and Conduct of Engineering along with industry,

regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) codes and standards

Additional Details

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
