JOB OVERVIEW

The Intern, Internal Audit supports the Internal Audit team in evaluating financial, operational and compliance-related risks across the organization. This role provides hands-on experience in audit procedures, internal controls testing and risk assessments while gaining exposure to industry best practices. Working under the guidance of experienced team member, the Intern, Internal Audit assists in conducting audits, analyzing data and preparing reports. This internship is ideal for a detail-oriented and analytical individual looking to develop a foundational understanding of internal audit processes within a professional environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities:

• Perform audit procedures in alignment with the approved audit program, including identifying and testing internal controls to assess effectiveness and compliance, while maintaining organized and well-documented audit working papers.

• Work closely with internal audit team members to gather necessary information, clarify audit issues and facilitate effective communication throughout the audit process

• Assist in evaluating business processes to identify potential risks, inefficiencies and areas for improvement

• Analyze large data sets using tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power Query and Power BI to identify trends and support audit conclusions

• Develop clear, concise and well-supported audit observations and recommendations in collaboration with internal audit team members, ensuring alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements

• Contribute to the drafting of internal audit reports and other key deliverables, summarizing findings and recommended actions for management

• Maintain compliance in assigned required training and all training required by state/province or other regulating authorities as applicable to this role to ensure that Sunrise standards are always met

• Perform other duties as assigned

• Capable of performing audit procedures, testing internal controls and maintaining organized documentation with a high degree of precision to ensure accuracy and compliance

• Strong ability to analyze large data sets, identify trends and draw actionable conclusions to support audit objectives

• Capable of identifying inefficiencies, risks and opportunities for improvement in business processes and developing well-supported recommendations for enhancement

• Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing clear, concise audit reports, presenting findings and facilitating discussions with team members and business unit leaders

• Strong ability to works effectively within a team, contributing to discussions, sharing information and supporting team goals while maintaining alignment with audit objectives and best practices

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed throughout this job description are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

• Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting or a business-related field is required; completion of at least one auditing course is preferred

• Demonstrated knowledge of internal controls, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements, COSO framework and Service Organization Controls (SOC1)

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions (e.g., VLOOKUP, IF, OR, SUMIF, Pivot Tables) and data manipulation techniques (e.g., CONCATENATE, SUBSTRING, CLEAN, TRIM)

• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and Adobe Acrobat (e.g., applying stamps, adding text boxes)

• Demonstrated ability to research, analyze and apply data from diverse sources effectively

• Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment with strong time management, multitasking and organizational skills

Selected candidates will be offered competitive compensation based on geographic location of community/office, skills, experience, qualifications, and certifications/licenses (where applicable).
