City Of Minneapolis-Human Resources Planning Field Intern in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Position Description The department of Community Planning and Economic Development currently has one (1) full-time Summer Internship opportunity, in the area of Zoning - Field Inspection. Schedule: The hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Pay: Anticipated hourly rate of $16.51, depending on qualifications. A resume and cover letter are required with your application. Work Location: This position currently works on-site only. Job Duties and Responsibilities Assist Zoning Enforcement in a variety of field inspection duties such as: Reviewing site for compliance with site plan approvals, including garages, new single family homes, and larger developments such as multifamily and nonresidential structures. Additional project duties assigned if needed. Data entry as required. Required Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Current students, or recent graduates within a year of this announcement, with an educational focus in Building or Housing Inspections, Urban Studies, Business Administration, Public Administration, Housing Program, Urban Planning, Geography, Architecture or other related fields. Minimum Experience: No experience required. Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver's license. Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered. Drug and Alcohol Testing: All job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made. Applicants who do not consent to undergo drug and alcohol testing will not be required to do so and the City will withdraw the conditional job offer, resulting in the job applicant no longer being considered for the position. Union Representation: This is a non-represented position. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Good oral and written communication skills. Bilingual skills in Spanish, Somali, Amharic, Oromo, Hmong, Vietnamese and/or Lao highly desired. Ability to relate and work effectively with people from diverse cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds.
