Job Description: LOCAL GOVERNMENT- SUMMER PARKS AND RECREATION INTERNSHIP CLASS NO. 113 EEOC CATEGORY: PAY GROUP: FLSA: Nonexempt SUMMARY OF POSITION This position is a full-time, temporary position scheduled 40 hours per week for 12 weeks. This internship may require working during evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. This position will assist the Parks and Recreation Manager and Assistant Public Works Director in the areas of parks and recreation, facilities maintenance research, community outreach programs, and planning. The position requires to perform research involving a variety of parks and recreation and facility maintenance issues. Assignments are expected to be carried out with limited supervision and using sound judgment in selecting work methods. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS 1. Reports to: Parks and Recreation Manager. 2. Directs: This is a non-supervisory position. 2. Other: Has frequent contact with department heads; city employees; local, state, and federal agencies; and the general public. EXAMPLES OF WORK Essential Duties* Successfully complete a special project of value to the student and the department. Perform requirements and duties as required by interns college or university as needed for credit. Attend all Parks and Recreation meetings and Park Board meetings as assigned. Assist in coordinating meetings and responding to citizen inquiries. Other duties as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: Social media and computer software - Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Skill/Ability to: Strong personal and professional integrity. Skilled at building coalitions. Ability to maintain productive and positive relationships. CLASS NO. 113 (Continued) Excellent communicator possessing well developed interpersonal skills. Innovative strategic thinker and committed to customer service. Operate computers, including word processing, publishing, and spreadsheet software; gather, compile, analyze and evaluate a variety of data, and make sound decisions regarding those data as they apply to providing department services. ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Prefer current undergraduate or graduate student whose major studies in Public Administration, Political Science, Parks and Recreation, Urban Planning, Community Development, Economic Development, Business Management, or related fields.
