First Solar Inc Data Science Intern: R&D Analytics (Fall 2024) in Perrysburg, Ohio

Expected Length of Internship: 3 months, Fall 2024 As an internship company, we allow flexibility to enroll in classes while working as an intern, as long as it doesn't interfere with the essential functions of the position. Education/Experience: Must be pursuing an Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field degree. Must currently be enrolled in a Bachelors (3rd year or later), master's or PhD program who is fulfilling a graduation requirement for their degree. Course work in mathematics and statistics. Course work in computer programming or data science. (Python scripting language and SQL preferred) First Solar encourages all interns to register their internship with their university. Required Skills/Competencies: Ability to review coding manuals to learn new syntax independently. Ability to create reports/plots, analyze trends, and provide insights. Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and machine learning. Familiarity with SQL for data querying and manipulation. Robust knowledge and experience in statistical modeling techniques and applications Demonstrated analytical, multi-tasking, problem solving, organizational, and planning skills. Clear communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment. Experience with fundamental technologies in a Microsoft environment: Windows OS, Office 365, etc. Basic Internship Scope (Project): Help Develop pipelines that extract significant features from key data sets. Build custom analytical / data extraction tools. Contribute to automated scripting and analysis for larger software packages. Support the team to perform data extraction, cleaning, analysis and deliver actionable insights. Contribute to feature selection and development of machine learning models to uncover value of data. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their needs and perform Ad hoc analysis. The candidate will work closely with Data Scientists on multiple data analysis use cases. Upon the completion of this internship, the intern is required to present their accomplishments and project summary to the leadership team. Estimated Salary Range: $17.00 - $27.27/Hour US Physical Requirements: Hybrid Physical Requirements: Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift. Will climb stairs on an occasional basis. Will lift, push or pull up to 27 pounds on an occasional basis. Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis. 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required. Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures. May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis. May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis. Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards).
