UPMC Pharmacy Intern, 5th Year - Health Plan- Pharmacy Services in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

UPMC Health Plan is hiring a Pharmacy Intern to support the Clinical Pharmacy team within the Pharmacy Services department. This is a casual position with a full-time schedule (Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) during the summer months and a part-time schedule (minimum 4 hours/week) during the non-summer months. This position will be located in downtown Pittsburgh, PA. The Pharmacy Intern is responsible for assisting in daily activities that are completed in the Pharmacy department. Some of the responsibilities include helping with clinical and quality initiatives, drug reviews for P&T committee, as well as other ad hoc drug information projects. The Pharmacy Intern also has the opportunity to attend and present in various internal department meetings and attend clinical presentations. The clinical projects and daily activities will be performed in compliance with state and federal regulations, NCQA standards, the mission, policies and procedures of the UPMC Health Plan.

This position will be a set rate of $19.21/hr.

Responsibilities:

  • Create drug monographs for new medications approved by the FDA and collaborate on development of prior authorization criteria for the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee.

  • Assist with quality related initiatives involving provider outreach and education on various medication related measures.

  • Directly answer drug information requests by preparing responses utilizing an appropriate literature search.

  • Perform reviews of medical journals and guideline updates, as requested.

  • Generate assigned clinical presentations for business purposes and other ad hoc related assignments across the Health Plan Pharmacy Department.

  • Participate in the daily activities, including clinical program outreach and prior authorization processes.

  • Good standing in an accredited School of Pharmacy.

  • Minimum course equivalency of first professional year of college of Pharmacy.

  • Prior experience in pharmacy practice and career track in managed care pharmacy preferred.

  • The candidate also must possess good communication and computer skills. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy Intern Certificate Certification preferred. UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
