Respiratory Care students looking to gain hands-on clinical experience in a dynamic, high-acuity hospital, a Magnet-recognized Level 1 trauma and multi-organ transplant center where you’ll have the opportunity to learn from top professionals in the field while working in a state-of-the-art environment.
As a Respiratory Care Intern , you will work under the direct supervision of experienced Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCPs) and clinical leaders, gaining practical experience in administering diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care in a 48-bed level 1 trauma ER, ICUs, and medical and surgical units. You’ll develop critical skills while contributing to the care of 40-50 tracheostomy patients and assisting in advanced procedures—including work in one of only four hospitals nationwide that can provide hyperbaric oxygen therapy for pediatric patients.

Responsibilities
· Administer and monitor respiratory therapies, including oxygen, aerosolized drugs, BiPAP/CPAP, IPPB, and chest physiotherapy.
· Perform and document respiratory procedures such as arterial punctures, pulmonary function testing, incentive spirometry, and PEP therapy.
· Assist in transporting patients requiring respiratory support and manage respiratory equipment hospital-wide.
· Maintain accurate patient records and ensure proper documentation in medical systems.
· Clean, disinfect, and sterilize respiratory equipment while performing minor repairs and maintenance.
· Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway management, and ventilatory support as needed.
· Communicate effectively with healthcare teams to ensure coordinated patient care.
· Follow hospital and department policies, attend required meetings, and complete all mandatory competencies.
Conduct clinical research and participate in patient evaluations to determine therapy needs.
· Exhibit professionalism, maintain personal cleanliness, and provide excellent service to patients, families, and staff.
Currently enrolled in a CoARC approved school of Respiratory Care.
The intern must register for the Internship/Preceptorship each semester/quarter.
The intern must have completed one semester of clinical rotations at a CoARC approved school of Respiratory Care.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
