Job Description
This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies (HII-MT) Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII-MT.
For this internship, the SkillBridge intern will train as a Systems Administrator within HII-Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated HII Supervisor, with the goal to prepare the transitioning service member to function as an entry-level Systems Administrator, capable of supporting Windows/Linux environments within DoD infrastructure while adhering to security protocols and best practices. The intern will be assigned special projects as needed.
Desired End State (3-4 month target)
At the end of four months, the intern will:
Windows/Active Directory Administration
Master Active Directory user and group management
Implement and verify Windows system patches and updates
Apply STIG requirements to Windows environments
Configure and maintain Windows Server infrastructure
Security and Compliance
Achieve Security+ certification (if not already held)
Demonstrate proficiency in DoD STIG implementation
Understand security clearance requirements and protocols
Learn enterprise backup and recovery procedures
Enterprise Systems and Virtualization
Gain hands-on experience with VMware environments
Develop Linux administration skills (focus on RedHat)
Learn enterprise patch management systems
Practice help desk escalation procedures and documentation
Mission Technologies will benefit from the military background of the Skillbridge intern and considers the Skillbridge internship an overall positive experience.
Assumptions/Restrictions
Skillbridge Intern will possess a technical background and have training and experience with information systems, networks, and possibly the Linux operating system
Skillbridge Intern will possess at minimum an active Secret security clearance.
Skillbridge Intern will be available during core hours for critical meetings and training.

Minimum Qualifications
Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service. Applications accepted within final 12 months of active-duty service. Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.
3 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field OR 7 years with HS Diploma
Security+ or equivalent certification
Must have Active Directory experience
Linux experience
Experience resolving more complex technical problems through a defined escalation process
Experienced with help desk troubleshooting protocols
Possess and maintain a US Secret security clearance and TESA status

Preferred Requirements
Windows desktop operating systems (WIN11 SHB)
Use of Enterprise Patching systems preferred
Experience digesting and implementing DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG)
Experience with patching Microsoft servers and workstations
Experience with VMware
Experience with RedHat Enterprise Linux, as well as experience working in Virtualized environments (i.e., VMware)
Ability to read and digest technical information
