Meta Research Scientist Intern, Hardware Research (PhD) in Redmond, Washington

Summary:

Meta Reality Labs is looking for exceptional interns to help create the next generation of virtual and augmented reality. Our research focuses on comprehensive solutions to complex tracking problems, delivering novel technologies and algorithms fundamental to future VR and AR systems. You’ll have the unique opportunity to work with industry-leading researchers and engineers who are defining the future of VR.In particular, Meta Reality Labs Research is looking for motivated interns for hardware research in eye tracking applications. Design and modeling of the hardware based 3D sensing for eye tracking. This internship architects and develops various types of hardware systems with related electrical and DSP modules. Conducts analyses, simulations, evaluations of components and the overall systems. Interfaces with various cross-functional teams such as software, firmware and testing engineers to improve hardware system solutions. Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

Required Skills:

Research Scientist Intern, Hardware Research (PhD) Responsibilities:

  1. Develops system architecture and designs hardware specifications to achieve complex features with minimal supervision from more experienced engineers.

  2. Identifies ways to simulate, optimize electrical designs by evaluating device performance over a limited range of operating conditions and configurations.

  3. Interfaces with testing and quality engineers to help establish automation flows for design, testing and validation of hardware systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Ph.D. degree in the fields of applied mathematics, signal processing, computational optics, or related fields

  2. Experience coding in Matlab and/or Python

  3. Experience with data acquisition hardware and signal processing chains.

  4. Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

  1. Hardware Engineering experience or related work experience with optoelectronics components like photodiode (PD), APD, SiPM, SPAD, SPIN detector, etc.

  2. ASIC design or FPGA design experience.

  3. Experience with circuit design (e.g., digital, analog, RF).

  4. Experience with hardware design and measurement instruments such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.

  5. Intent to return to a degree program after the completion of the internship

  6. Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as SPIE, ETRA, OSA, IEEE, ISSCC

  7. Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration

Public Compensation:

$7,313/month to $11,333/month + benefits
