Job Summary

The shared services pharmacy intern will assist the acute care pharmacy team with standardization initiatives to support centralized clinical services. The intern will focus on helping to compile and assort meeting materials for the many meetings these two positions facilitate including Formulary Advisory Committee, Enterprise Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, and the Medication Safety Committee. The intern will also help assist in long-term longitudinal projects such as formulary alignment and clinical workflow harmonization. Additional assignments may include dashboarding, medication use evaluations, and competency development. This intern position is shared by the System Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services as well as the System Director of Medication Safety. The position is PRN but allotted up to 20 hours per week to complete assigned duties. Hours worked will vary depending upon assigned tasks and school workload. This internship is intended to last for duration of pharmacy school and concludes upon becoming a licensed pharmacist.

Essential Job Functions

Assisting the acute care pharmacy team with standardization initiatives to support centralized clinical services

Supporting long-term longitudinal projects such as formulary alignment and clinical workflow harmonization

Creating training and educational materials for pharmacy technicians, students, interns, and pharmacists

Compiling and assorting meeting materials for various departmental and interdepartmental committees

Maintaining pharmacy dashboards related to antimicrobial use, medication safety, and other tracked initiatives

May perform other duties within the scope of practice as assigned by supervisor.

Monitoring drug utilization and mitigating drug shortages

Training in the inpatient pharmacy to learn the workflow and skillset of acute care pharmacists.

Receiving, transferring, or clarifying oral prescriptions with prescribers and/or appropriate staff members as

authorized by state law and under pharmacist supervision

Administering immunizations [if immunization certified via an accredited immunization program as allowed

per state law]

Training, educating, and precepting new pharmacy technicians, students, and interns

Assisting other staff with medication issues and response to email and phone call concerns or follow-up

Licensing/Certification

Pharmacy Intern License – State Board of Pharmacy (required)

Basic Life Support (BLS) - Various (preferred)

Education

High School Diploma or GED (required)

Actively enrolled in an accredited college of pharmacy with an active board of pharmacy intern license (required)
