Job Summary and Qualifications

Assists pharmacists in controlling, directing, and monitoring workflow in matters pertaining to drug distribution. All drug dispensing activities are under the direct supervision and final-check of a pharmacist. Complies with the Memorial Health Compliance Program, related policies and procedures and the Code of Business Practices; reports instances of perceived and actual non-compliance to Team Leader or through other reporting mechanisms.
Assists pharmacists with preparation and proper labeling of medication, and delivery of medications after final-check by a pharmacist.
Responsible for filling Pyxis machines with appropriate medications and IV fluids. Also responsible for returning unused and expired medications when appropriate.
Assists in crediting all medications returned to pharmacy when appropriate and returning unused medications to stock.
Assists in preparation and packaging of bulk products, unit dose items, and parenteral admixtures.
Assists in maintaining proper levels of medications and supplies. Check assigned areas for outdated drugs.
Assists in safe, secure, accurate and timely distribution of controlled substances and requisitions.
Responsible for maintaining efficient workflow.
Answers telephone, screens calls, and responds to persons at the window.
Assists in the orientation and training of other technicians.
Works to minimize errors in the medication process including loading correct medications in pyxis, verifying expiration dates and ensuring pharmacist has checked all medications before dispensing by utilizing S.T.A.R. (Stop, Think, Act and Review) especially when dealing with a situation that is out of policy, procedure, or plan, or any other high-risk situation.
Assists with minor equipment failures associated with Pyxis system.
Performs other related responsibilities as required.
