Port of Seattle College Intern – Aviation Environmental Compliance Program in Seattle, Washington
Some of what you'll be doing:
This is a full-time summer internship opportunity. As part of the Aviation Environmental Compliance Team, you will support programs associated with contaminated sites and hazardous materials handling and disposal. This program ensures compliance with state and federal laws associated with current and historical uses (and releases) of chemical-containing materials.
Coordinate with construction projects for proper identification, handling, and disposal of contaminated materials.
Review, summarize and update records of past investigations, cleanups, and spills in the Port’s historical records database.
Conduct field visits to locate and record environmental well locations and conditions and support efforts to update an inventory of the existing groundwater monitoring well network.
Support staff with planning for environmental soil and groundwater investigations.
Evaluate field and analytical laboratory data.
Coordinate with Port Maintenance Crews for upkeep and repairs to existing soil caps.
Support staff with site inspections of materials handling areas.
Who you are:
A student – You must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or a recent graduate (< 1 year ago) in a degree program such as Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent.

What else you need to know:
Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.
Work Environment – This work will take place in a hybrid remote/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.
Limited Duration – This is a limited duration position and is expected to last no longer than five months.
Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Training – You will be asked to complete this training prior to conducting work on projects with known environmental contamination. This course is conducted in person at a non-Port training facility.
Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you will/must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington State within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
