There are two (2) available positions for this opportunity.

Some of your essential duties include:

• Work with the EDI office to support internal and external communications, such as drafting content for newsletters, writing spotlights of Port employees, and drafting messages about the impact of the Port’s EDI work.

• Work with the EDI office to support engagement of employees at the Port in the EDI programming, such as EDI Lunch and Learns, book clubs, and EDI trainings.

• Work with EDI office to support community engagement efforts as a part of our workforce development and South King County Fund work.

• Assist the EDI office’s efforts to track outputs and articulate impact of efforts.

• Assist EDI with Change Team support, including tracking the progress of committee work, organizing committee chairs for alignment, and helping with community-building activities/ideas.

Who you are:

• A student – You must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or a recent graduate (< 1 year ago) in a college degree program.

• Committed to Equity – You will apply equity and exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices in all aspects of the work. At the Port of Seattle, equity is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all Port employees.

• Experienced – You understand racial justice, anti-racism, and/or social justice issues impacting marginalized communities including communities of color and immigrants and refugees.

• Relationships – You have experience in meaningful, sustainable relationship-building and community-building with racially and culturally diverse people, employees, and communities.

• Organized and proactive – You can gather and analyze complex data and make recommendations. Ability to manage multiple projects.

• A creative, clear communicator – Exceptional active listening, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

What else you need to know:

• Work Schedule – This is a summer intern position expected to last for roughly three (3) months. Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.

• Work Environment – This work will take place in a hybrid remote/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.

• Limited Duration – This is a limited duration position and is expected to last no longer than five months.

• Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
