SUMMARY: Responsible for supporting project tasks across all technical groups at CES and managing self-directed growth of technical and design capabilities. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The engineering intern will work with their supervisor and project managers to engage in engineering tasks that solve our client's maritime problems. The internship will comprise of the following responsibilities: Draft design features in 2D and 3D environments. Conduct engineering calculations including stability, structure, resistance, powering, fluid dynamics, equipment sizing. Perform cost and weight analyses for new construction and modification projects. Review, interpret, and report on regulatory requirements and guidance. Communicate effectively with engineers of varying disciplines, project managers, administrative staff, and client counterparts. Write formally and informally to convey design activities, conclusions, and recommendations. Think critically about different approaches to resolve a design or engineering issue. Be eager to learn new concepts, processes, and methods to design for the marine environment. Maintain a growth mindset and seek continuous feedback to improve technical and interpersonal capabilities. Support on-site activities including vessel ship checks, incline experiments, ride-alongs, and shipyard inspections.EDUCATION: Pursuing bachelor's degree in one of the following fields, preferably in a junior or senior standings: marine engineering, naval architecture, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or structural engineering. Master's candidates will also be considered. EXPERIENCE: 0 - 2 years general office work experience. TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Required: Microsoft Office suite. Preferred: AutoCAD, Rhino, GHS, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint. COMPETENCIES: The engineering intern should be able to: Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously. Interpret design/engineering drawings, specifications, codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Learn and utilize new design techniques, tools, and principles involved in designing marine vessels. Be accountable to colleagues and supervisors throughout the internship period. JOB SCOPE: Position impacts multiple business units/segments. WORKING CONDITIONS: Primarily work inside an office environment with use of a computer for extended periods of time. Internships are in-person in Seattle, WA and the individual will be expected to occasionally travel locally for ship checks and shipyard visits.
