The Executive Pathways Program is a paid summer internship (June – August) for college students to explore a rewarding career in public service.

The Operations Equity Intern will serve in the Office of Agency Effectiveness and work closely with the Operations Equity Director in embedding equity into all aspects of the department's operations to ensure fair and inclusive outcomes for all Minnesotans. As an Operations Equity Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in data analysis, policy research, and strategic communication while contributing to efforts that address systemic barriers for underserved populations. This internship is ideal for those passionate about equity and interested in advancing their skills in policy evaluation and inclusive system design.

Some responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Conducting equity analyses of policies

• Developing tools to measure equity outcomes

• Assisting with strategic plans centered on equity

• Supporting equity-focused workshops and stakeholder listening sessions

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for an internship, you must meet the following requirements:

You must be a student at an accredited educational institution; or recently graduated December 2024 or May 2025

AND

• Excellent human relation and communication skills sufficient to represent the position and Division in a professional, efficient, and clear manner

• Ability to work independently and in a team setting

• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and contribute to a culture of inclusion

• Interest in learning how equity is operationalized within government systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Preferred majors include: Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Communications or related field

• Ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative data analysis

• Strong writing skills for creating reports, policy briefs, and equity tools, understanding of equity

• Understanding of equity principles, systemic disparities, and barriers impacting underserved populations

• Ability to work effectively in diverse teams and across different departments

• Interest in learning how equity is operationalized within government systems.

Additional Requirements

• Must be in academic years of sophomore, junior, or senior (Graduate students allowed)

• Must provide unofficial transcript to show proof of school enrollment

• Must be willing to reside in Minnesota for the duration of internship

• Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
