Great Lakes Environmental Center, Inc. (GLEC) is recruiting candidates for a field technician intern at our Traverse City, MI location. GLEC is an established employee-owned contract research firm that is a national leader in protecting aquatic environmental resources through work for federal, state, industrial, and non-profit organizations.

This position will primarily assist with routine water quality monitoring as part of GLEC's contract with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). The objective of the monitoring effort is to measure concentrations of designated water quality indicators (E. coli, pesticides, nutrients, low level mercury, trace metals, dissolved oxygen, water temperature, specific conductance, and pH) at randomly selected tributary locations throughout Michigan. Sampling visits will occur weekly beginning on or around July 1 through approximately August 15, 2024 and will consist of five consecutive 10-hour days, with overnight travel required. Travel costs while sampling will be paid by GLEC. Additional duties at may also be assigned.

Applicants should be pursuing a degree in freshwater studies, environmental science, water quality monitoring or a similar field and have a desire to gain additional experience.

Compensation: $16.00/hour.
