Position Summary
RSI, aDepartment of Energy Office of Legacy Management (LM) Support Contractor,is recruiting for an Interntoassist with environmental research and field activities being conducted under the Applied Studies and Technology Educational Collaboration initiative at LM sites. The intern is needed to support the evaluation of background and upgradient sources of emerging contaminants in the areas surrounding the Rocky Flats Site, a former nuclear weapons component manufacturing facility that underwent a $7 billion cleanup ending in 2005. The Intern will obtain environmental data associated with groundwater, surface water, atmospheric deposition, and other relevant sources to support data analytics at Rocky Flats. The Intern will develop and present an internal report that provides a summary of the data and compares and contrasts those data with existing Rocky Flats data.

Hiring Range: $20.28 per hour
This position is required to travel 0% of the time and may require fieldwork within 35 miles of the office up to 20% of the time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Embrace and comply with RSI’s health and safety requirements, including mandatory training and careful implementation of health and safety procedures and policies.
Identify potential regional point and non-point sources of PFAS and coordinate obtaining related data for compilation into a robust database.
Identify locations for background sample collection (both upgradient/upstream and from atmospheric deposition, e.g., precipitation).
Consider possible effects of differing environmental conditions and other factors on timing and location of background sampling, such as precipitation events, season, potential upgradient source areas, and alternative locations in case access to some is infeasible.
If background sampling is approved, assist theRocky Flats sampling team withthe collection of environmental samples and preparation of the samples for shipment to offsite laboratories, dependent on completing the necessary training for certain tasks.
Review, evaluate, and summarize/assess analytical data representing concentrations of PFAS in environmental media. Includes the use of relevant data analytical tools such as graphing, modeling, statistical evaluation, and other analyses suitable for the type and amount of data collected.
Prepare an internal technical report that presents the project scope and design, methods, interpretation, and conclusions. Include thorough overview of external PFAS data and graphics, tables, and text to illustrate any patterns and relationships that have been identified. Prepare and deliver a presentation that summarizes the report contents.
As available and requested, support Rocky Flats staff as necessary and relevant to the scope, including groundwater and surface water monitoring, ecological activities, and routine operations and maintenance.

Required Education and Years of Relevant Experience
Completion of at least 26 credit hours towards an undergraduate degree in science such as Geology, Geochemistry, Hydrogeology, Chemistry, or a related field.
Norelevant experience is necessary.

Essential Physical Requirements
Medium: Work involves moving objects by exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or an above-negligible amount and up to 10 pounds constantly. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.
